Readers checking Burbury Hotel & Apartments before a booking usually want three answers: what guests report, what a stay costs beyond the nightly rate, and how far the hotel is from Parliament House. This check sets the listed facts against guest scores and one dated critical review, and it marks which points are confirmed and which remain open. Agoda’s guest score is 8.8 out of 10 from 3,275 reviews, and that figure sits alongside a 2017 account that rates the service response at 1.5.

How we researched this
Last checked: 2026-10-30.
Sources reviewed: online travel agency listings, guest review platforms, official property and tourism listings, and a competitor property site used only as an alternative reference.
We did not visit the hotel, interview staff, or find restaurant menu or hours data; the $107 rate comes from one third-party listing, and the 2017 review is a single guest account.
Key numbers
- Rooms: 152, which is 11 fewer than the 163 that Hotel Realm lists.
- Starting rate: from $107 on a third-party booking listing, not a rate published by the hotel itself.
- Parking: $20.00 per night according to the supplied listing data, while other platforms list parking as free.
- Distance: about 5 minutes by car to Parliament House, per the property listing.
- Service: a 2017 review scores the service response at 1.5, against the 4.5-star standard the reviewer expected.
Burbury Hotel & Apartments: what the listings confirm
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Official rating | 4.5 stars, provided by the property and verified by an independent third party |
| Street address | 1 Burbury Close, Barton, ACT 2600 |
| Room count | 152 rooms, as listed |
| Apartment size | Roughly 55 to 85 m² |
| Apartment kitchens | Full kitchens |
| Gym and spa | Hale Gym + Spa, opened in 2017, with Technogym equipment and yoga, Pilates, spin and boxing classes |
The hotel sits near Parliament House and is part of the Realm Precinct, according to VisitCanberra. Hale Gym + Spa is the on-site fitness and spa facility, and the property is listed as non-smoking.
What this means: the listed facts describe a 152-room property with a 4.5-star rating, but none of them measures how guests rate the stay.
Burbury hotel reviews
Guest scores vary by platform. TripAdvisor shows an average of 4.1 of 5 across roughly 1,700 reviews, while the review excerpts describe the same mix of praise and complaints. Expedia lists 9.0 out of 10 across 1,003 reviews, and Trivago’s AI-summarised review data gives service 9.2 and cleanliness 9.0. These scales differ, so read them as separate signals rather than one average.
Burbury Hotel was one of the best stays that I have experienced in Canberra.
TripAdvisor reviewer
A TripAdvisor review dated 4 November 2017 rates the service response at 1.5. The same reviewer says the property is meant to be 4.5 stars and is 4 at best.
The biggest disappointment was discovering that the pool is not included in the room rate.
TripAdvisor reviewer
What to watch: the service complaint is dated and comes from one guest, so ask the hotel about current service before assuming it still applies.
Burbury hotel restaurant
Our sources contain no menu or opening hours for an on-site restaurant, and no restaurant name is confirmed for the property.
A low-confidence listing on Luxury Escapes describes breakfast as cooked to order and charged as a fee, on weekdays from 6:30 to 10:00 AM and at weekends from 7:00 to 10:30 AM, with children aged 6 and under eating free. The only named on-site amenities in the sources are the rooftop bar, Leyla Bar, and Hale Gym + Spa.
The catch: the dining question has no confirmed answer in the sources, so any decision about breakfast rests on a low-tier listing.
Pricing and parking
A third-party booking listing shows rates from $107. The supplied listing data gives parking at $20.00 per night. Other platforms list parking as free, so the charge is not consistent across sources.
For parking at a different Canberra hotel, see the East Hotel Canberra parking guide.
The trade-off: the nightly rate, parking and any pool or breakfast charges add up, so ask for a total stay price before you pay.
Location and getting there
The property is listed at about 5 minutes by car from Parliament House. One guest review describes a roughly 20-minute walk to Parliament House and restaurants within a few minutes’ walk.
The implication: a car shortens the trip to Parliament House considerably, while the walk is only described by one guest.
Pros and cons
- Official 4.5-star rating, verified by an independent third party
- Free Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception
- Apartment units with full kitchens and laundry facilities
- Cleanliness category scores of 8.9 on Agoda and 9.0 on Trivago
- Pool access fee of $15 per person, not included in the room rate (low confidence)
- Low shower pressure, and water that did not get hot enough in at least one room (low confidence)
- Some guests report disruptive noise from street activity and construction
- Some reports describe inconsistent room cleaning standards, per Hotel.com.au (low confidence)
The pattern: the strongest praise covers ratings and location, while the complaints centre on extra charges and in-room comfort details.
Alternative in the set: Hotel Realm
Hotel Realm is the only comparable property in the supplied inputs. Its property site lists 163 rooms, 5-star positioning, custom king beds, Smart TVs and Nespresso machines. The inputs give no starting rate for Hotel Realm, so a price comparison is not possible from this data.
For details on a different Canberra hotel’s pool and restaurant, see the Midnight Hotel Canberra parking, pool and restaurant guide.
The bottom line: Hotel Realm is the reference point for room count and star positioning, but the inputs do not allow a like-for-like price check.
Our pick
Our pick is Burbury Hotel & Apartments for a reader who needs a listed 4.5-star rating, 24-hour reception, free Wi-Fi and a short drive to Parliament House, provided the parking charge and pool fee are acceptable. Choose Hotel Realm instead if a 5-star-positioned property with 163 rooms matters more and you can confirm its rate.
Before booking either, confirm the parking charge, the pool access fee, and the current shower and noise situation for the room type you want.
Why this matters: the listed facts are consistent, but the guest-level evidence is thin and dated, so the booking check depends on what you confirm directly.
